Car Accident at Upperline and St. Charles

I had a very, very long day.  I was up early and working all day long and will spend my evening preparing to fly to Portland early tomorrow morning for Auntie L.’s funeral.  I’ve got no time or energy for anything other than what needs to be done right now, but fortunately I still get to ride my bike to work and back.  I had a good ride this morning–fast fast because I was running late.  And I was looking forward to a leisurely ride home after a productive day before facing the next few.  I stopped to snap a picture of some particularly spooky Halloween decorations when I heard a  crack, turned, and watched this SUV flip a full 360 degrees following a hard hit by that pickup truck.  The windows shattered and my breath caught in my throat.  I was shocked when the driver of the flipped car got out and walked over to the curb.  I’m glad he was wearing his seatbelt, and I silently swore to wear my helmet more religiously.  It all happened in mere seconds.  I guess life’s like that; we just usually don’t notice because we cease to experience the everyday as event.  I waited to see if anyone needed my statement, but was told that the guy in the truck admitted it was his fault (it was–slow down and look before you turn!).  So I called a friend and chatted aimlessly while walking my bike home.  I’m staying in tonight.

  1. Kate, be sure to check The Bench when you are up to it as we were celebrating your anniversary. I hope your trip was “ok.”
