Men at the House of Blues

Men at House of BluesAfter spending some time fixing Rhoda’s back wheel, I hopped on and rode down to the Treme to meet D. and R. before we headed to the House of Blues for a show. The weather is just plain perfect right now–cool but not cold, breezy but not windy, and clear as a bell. I just flew downtown, and was excited to turn right back around, two other bike riders in tow, to head back to Decatur. I snapped this photo of Men, the opening band for Peaches, with my cell phone, because no cameras were allowed. I stomped around to Men’s music, along with a crowd of folks ten years younger than me. The crowd was excited, and just got more so when Peaches got on stage and did her costumes-and-antics performance. I thought about this part of performance as I watched these two shows, that part of performance that can’t be captured in a description or in pictures. I’ve seen Men in concert before, for example, at the smaller Parish House at the House of Blues. That show was completely different–fewer people, far fewer dancers, and just a far lower-key vibe. Same band, similar set, but tonight’s show was crowded with people dressed to dance to these bands and be seen by each other. The room felt good. There’s no way to capture the ephemeral sense of the show. Hop on your bike and get yourself to the show, people.
