Twirling Dolls Stalled at Lafayette Square

Oh yeah, it’s carnival time. I woke up this morning excited for parades. Oshun rolled tonight, and I was excited to get back in the parade swing of things. And excited to have clear skies for riding my bike. I started the bike day with a ride up to visit the library to pick up a book that I’m quite certain will change things. I love that kind of anticipation. But I’m not sure how much time I’ll have to read in the next week or two, because IT’S CARNIVAL TIME! I seriously love a parade. After the library I picked up N. and we rode our bikes to a place for margaritas and chips and dips. And then we headed to the parade route. I just love the lights of the lead cars, the sound of the bands, the presents flying off the floats. It’s just a feeling in the air, and I love it. The cool thing about going by bike is that you can see the parade Uptown and then pedal downtown to see the thing again. I snapped this picture on my second parade viewing stop. The floats stop at Lafayette Square, which means there’s some gaps in the parade and some waiting. These are the Twirling Dolls, and they are cold, waiting for the parade to move forward. There will be a lot of kids in sparkly outfits waiting in the cold, and sometimes the rain, in the next two weeks. And I’ll be out there waiting with them, by bike.
