Miniature Ponies, a Pig, and Two Bunnies in the Chris Owens Easter Parade

It’s Easter Sunday in New Orleans, so you know what that means–parades! I was positively exhausted today, in that way that burning the candle at all ends tends to leave a girl. But once I was out of bed, I put on a pretty dress and some make up and hopped on the Surly to meet friends for yet another celebration in the French Quarter. It was sunny and humid and I was a sweaty mess by the time I got to the Treme. Man, summertime is almost here, and I couldn’t be more ready to ride my bike through its soupy heat. I left my bike at R. and J.’s place and we all walked into the Quarter for the Chris Owens Easter Parade. After catching beads from the inimitable Chris Owens herself and a couple of peanut butter cups and a whole lot of pearl beads from other floats, I snapped this picture of miniature ponies with their gay pride bandanas being led down the street. That one little pony in the background? He’s pulling a tiny carriage. Know what’s in there? Why, a small pig and two little bunny rabbits, of course. Because it’s Easter in New Orleans, best seen by bike, foot, or hoof.
