I got up early this morning to bike over to City Park for the Tour de Lis. I was a bit sluggish after a lot of riding over the past few days, I’ll admit. My legs are t-i-r-e-d. But it was good to see lots of other folks with fresh-looking legs up early for some loops around the park to raise money for Lance Armstrong’s foundation. The bike parking was tremendous, as you can see in this photo. I also enjoyed the 9:00am chicken pasta washed down with a cold beer. Yeah, that kinda set the tone for the day, which saw me riding over to Bayou St. John for some kayaking (I saw a tiny alligator up close!) and an impromptu bike/rider photo shoot, then over to the Treme for some relaxing and wandering for gelato and a sit by the river, and a long evening lounging outside back in the Treme, enjoying the slightly cooler night air. I finished the day with a pedal up to a just-now-former (happy graduation!) student’s apartment for beer and chatter. I finally found myself headed home on Claiborne, empty that late at night, and quiet, feeling pretty fortunate to live here on a bicycle. Weekend rides are divine in the summertime.
Nice meeting you at the Tour de Lis Saturday. Rob Davis was there taking photos. He reminded me of this little project he did a while back:
