I am home again, home again, jiggity jig after a positively lovely trip out west to see old friends. Home means back on the bike, and I couldn’t have been more pleased to velcro-up my shoes, clip in, and head to campus to unpack my new office. It took a few blocks to get up to speed, and I had to play around with the gears to get comfortable again, but man, it is seriously good to be back on my bike. And it is also seriously good to be back on campus with that smell of back-to-school in the air. I snapped this picture as I headed into the student center bookstore to check out the status of my book orders (feel free to read along at home!). The marching band was practicing on the field, miming to a recording, shuffling back and forth and side to side in preparation for a long year of shuffling. The crane is still there, building that same building up on McAlister, but the pile driving is done, and now the thing’s going up. I headed into the student center, filled with students and parents, early arrivals. I saw an old student and met her dad; I love meeting parents and getting to tell them why their kid is special. I bought myself a new desk calendar and tripped to the office, high on the bike and high on new schoolyear buzz. Yes, yes, it is good to be home.
sounding good. I loved school in my day!
Thanks for the book reference, Kate.
