House on Delachaise and S. Liberty

It’s a beautiful day in New Orleans.  I can’t believe how warm and sunny it can still be in November.  I zipped home from work this afternoon on Willow and then took a right onto Amelia to head toward the river.  I passed this house near the corner of Delachaise and South Liberty.  It’s next to the house with the storage container on the front lawn, but this one doesn’t appear to be undergoing any sort of rebuilding.  There are lots of houses like this one all over town, and they are certainly ubiquitous in Central City.  This one caught my attention, though, because it looks like someone’s taken a bite out of the side of it.  You can see inside, but at this point it’s hard to imagine someone living in there.  The empty lot next door is slightly overgrown, and the houses behind and to the right are dilapidated as well.  Some of the houses in the neighborhood were all dressed up still from Halloween, with “boards” over windows and “No Trespassing” signs.  Most of the houses here aren’t in costume, however; they simply are boarded up, and warning against trespassers.  I have no idea how long they’ve been like that or how long they will stay that way.  That’s what’s really scary.
