Overturned Trash Can On Levee Path In Jefferson Parish

Toppled Trash Can on the LeveeIt has been cold and windy the past few days, but that hasn’t kept me off my bike.  I finally recovered from Mardi Gras madness and got some long rides in this weekend.  I didn’t plan to go out today, but I was in a bit of a foul mood after work this afternoon and knew a ride on the new bike would make everything shinier.  And it did.  Continue reading

The Mississippi River at the Fly on My New Bike

The Mississippi River at the FlyI didn’t have to be at work until noon today, so I took the opportunity to go for a ride on the new bike, tentatively named Jack. She’s a Surly Long Haul Trucker, a green steel beauty, a touring bike. I’ve been riding a big pink cruiser for the past year, so this is a huge upgrade in speed. I’ve already realized that there’s a lot more to riding this bike than Rhoda. There are gears to shift, hand grips to rotate, brakes to feather. It is so, so fun. Continue reading

Motorcycles on Tchoupitoulas

Yesterday’s bike accident, courtesy of the St. Charles streetcar and rain, meant that I had to do some bicycle repair today.  I managed to bend back my rear rim but needed N.’s allen wrench to get my handlebars back in shape.  Continue reading

Huey P. Long Bridge

I got my bike back today.  I can’t express how good it felt to be back on Rhoda, riding along the Mississippi River levee, listening to The Roots, doffing my invisible hat to fellow bicyclers, dog walkers, and scooterers.  Continue reading

The National Guard at Jackson Square

Today was my first full day back in New Orleans, and I spent much of it on N.’s bike, riding around to see what folks are up to. The rush of being back to the city and seeing it relatively unscathed is wearing off, and today I found myself feeling profoundly sad. Continue reading

The Fly

It was hot today, really, really hot.  Since I’ve been busily moving I have been taking mostly task rides lately.  But today I wanted to ride, just ride, as far as I could go.  Continue reading

The Mississippi River at Woldenberg Park

Tropical Storm Edouard formed in the Gulf yesterday.  It was never on a route to hit New Orleans, but we all still watched, carefully.  Continue reading

It’s Hot and It’s Raining

I wanted a good ride today, especially after finally getting some writing done on a project that already feels a year overdue. Continue reading

Egrets on the Mississippi River Levee

I treated myself to a ride along the Mississippi River levee today.  I love this ride because there are no cars so I can turn up my music–today, a jazz mix from WWOZ–and just book it.  Continue reading

Birthday River Ride

Today is my birthday, so I gave myself the gift of a ride along the Mississippi River levee.  Continue reading
