I’m not usually a big fan of New Year’s Eve. It’s too much mandatory drinking and fun and dancing, and I like to be in charge of those things myself, no matter what the calendar says. But I headed out on my bike this evening, hell-bent on making a go of it this year. And man, did I have a good time. First was Movie Night with R. and J. and J.’s delicious beans (don’t tell me what kind of meat was in there, please). Then we piled in the car and drove over the M. and M.’s for serious dance party-ing. The traffic was terrible, with a zillion people trying to drive into the Quarter. Yep, bikes win again. After dancing and laughing and toasting the New Year I got back on the bike and zipped over to the Marigny to meet new friends for some ridiculously pleasurable dancing. Biking and dancing, dancing and biking. That’s all I really need, you know? I ended up at Cafe du Monde with some of the other late-night stragglers for the first beignets of the new year. Look at that mess! Unfortunately the bike ride back Uptown caught me with a flat, but I called a girl for a ride and made it home, safe and warm. 2009 was a great year for me, one of the best on record. I’m looking forward to more of the same, and some different, in 2010. I’ll do 2010 by bike, methinks.
