I was tired after a long day, but I couldn’t let this first cool(ish) evening go without getting out for a ride on the Surly. It was positively lovely out there. I headed over to Canal and rode over and along Bayou St. John, where lots of folks were out enjoying the cooler and drier air. Continue reading

St. Thomas Housing Development at Chippewa and St. Andrew
School in session has meant a whole lot more work. I fear my job is getting in the way of my mindless riding around town. Today, after my commute to and from work, I hopped back on the bike and tooled down to the Marigny for coffee and writing with S. I rode down Chippewa, through the St. Thomas Development. Continue reading
View of Downtown From O’Keefe and Girod
Today’s riding included a task ride to campus where I set up my new office. This may make me unpopular with some of my colleagues, but I’m actually really looking forward to classes starting. Clean slate, new students, new readings…I love the start of school. Continue reading
Woodward, Wight, and Co. in the Warehouse District
Today’s ride took me down to the Treme for S.’s going-away brunch. It seems like people are always leaving, like New Orleans is a stop on the road to elsewhere for lots and lots of folks. It can be sad to say goodbye so often, but S. is off to bigger and better things in New York City. Continue reading
Cuban Flag Commemoration Plaque at Poydras and Magazine
The past few days have been rainy rainy, so when the sun came out today and S. wanted to come over for a swim, I readily agreed. We then decided to go see a movie. At the movie theater. I hadn’t seen a movie in movie theater since December. Continue reading
From Tramps to Kings at the Presbytere
Today was just plain beautiful, so after work I decided to be a tourist and rode my bike down to the French Quarter to check out a museum and then enjoy beignets and coffee–delicious, sugary goodness. I decided to go to the Presbytere to see their new exhibit, “From Tramps to Kings: 100 Years of Zulu.” I’d heard great things about the exhibit, and those rave reviews were right. Continue reading
Lindy Boggs Medical Center in Mid-City
The sun came out again today thank goodness. I hadn’t ridden my bicycle in two whole days–which is a really long time. I was getting itchy. So after riding to and from work today I took Jack out for a long ride around Mid-City. Continue reading
Halloween Decorations at Octavia and Annunciation
I had the day off today and spent part of it tooling around town on the bike before settling in to get some work done. It’s mid-October here, so that means it’s time for Halloween. I have lived lots of places, but never one where so many put so much into decking out their houses for this particular holiday. Continue reading
New Orleans Public Library on St. Charles
Now that school’s back in session I find myself very, very busy. Work is cutting in to my biking time, and also cutting in to my exploration of new routes. I’ve been taking St. Charles largely because it is fast–it’s well-paved, wide enough to ride safely with cars (usually), and free of stop signs. Whee! Continue reading
