I don’t know if you’ve heard, but the New Orleans Saints are having a pretty good football season. They were undefeated, 13-0, going into tonight’s game versus the Dallas Cowboys. One of the very first things I learned as a child was to hate the Cowboys. As far my recall goes, my learning went like this: Yankees suck, never cross a picket line, hate the Dallas Cowboys. So yeah, I was rooting for the Saints. Continue reading

New Orleans Recreation Department Tennis Center at Loyola and Marengo
I rode home from work shivering in the slightly chilly weather (I need a cold weather haberdasher–I’m terrible at dressing myself once it drops below 70!) along Loyola through Central City. The asphalt is really, really nice in that neighborhood, but it doesn’t exactly look like a neighborhood that would have newly paved roads. Continue reading
Cars and Cars at Baronne and Howard
I don’t know if you heard, but the Saints had a game tonight. And they are having a really good season. 6-0 going in to tonight’s game, in fact. It felt like the whole city was gearing up for a party, so I hopped on the Surly (Rhoda’s out of commission at the moment) and headed down to the Treme, via Loyola, to watch the game in HD at J. and R.’s place. Continue reading
T-Model Ford at the Crescent City Blues & BBQ Festival
I’ve been off the bike for a few days due to a bit of a cold, but I had to pedal a little today. I’d planned a long ride, but then I got a call from A. B. had called her with two 50-yard line seats to the Saints-Giants game–could I be ready in ten minutes. Oh, yeah. Continue reading
Hornets V. Nuggets at the New Orleans Arena
Sometimes wonderful things fall in to your lap. Today, it was floor seats under the basket to the Hornets/Nuggets playoff game tonight. D. called asking if N. and I might want to accompany her. Um…yeah! Continue reading
The New Orleans Hornets Vs. The Chicago Bulls
Tonight I scored some excellent free tickets to the Hornets game. Chris Paul is still injured, so I wouldn’t get to see him play, but I have never been to an NBA game, and I was positively thrilled to get to head down to the Arena tonight. Continue reading
Baseball Diamond at Laurel and Lyons
I had never seen New Orleans before I drove in on I10 last summer. I moved in to a house on Laurel Street that I rented, sight unseen, from a Tulane professor who was on leave. Just down the block was a FEMA trailer park in what used to be a park. Continue reading
Cricket at Tulane
Today was a beautiful day in New Orleans: mid-70s, blue sky, shining sun. It was the perfect day for a bike ride, so I tooled around Uptown after doing some work on campus. I saw these men playing cricket out on the lawn in front of the student center. Continue reading
The Superdome on Saints Opening Day
Yes, I am ready for some football. Saints football, especially. The NFL made much of getting the team back to the Superdome for the opening day, and, frankly, I’m glad they did. Continue reading
