It was a lovely, crisp day in New Orleans today–blue sky, sunny, slight breeze. I decided to take Freret home from work, but was stymied by a rare event: a bicycle traffic jam. There were enough bikes on Freret slowing my easy traffic that I went ahead and took South Liberty. It felt good to be on a different street, sailing along, noticing new houses and new stray cats and new downed trees. Continue reading

Leaking Fire Hydrant at Tulane
Finally–a warm, sunny day! I put on a dress and heels and hopped on my bike to head to work, and it felt great. It seemed like everybody was out today and ready for summer, even though we’ve got some months left. Continue reading
Washing Machine at Soniat and Willow
I love New Orleans weather in January. Yesterday it was windy and wet with a tornado warning. Today it’s all sunny blue skies with just the right nip in the air. I took Willow home today rather than St. Charles and was surprised by how much has actually changed in the last month. Continue reading
Steps at Thalia and Coliseum
Yesterday was stormy, rain and thunder and lightning, no good for a bike ride. But today was beautiful. It was warm and humid and the air was thick like summertime. In January. Continue reading
House on Prytania and Marengo
I am back in New Orleans after a lovely holiday drive through Texas to visit friends in Houston, College Station, and Austin. Going away always makes me happy to be back home, and today I was especially pleased to get to hop back on my bike to ride to work, lunch, and then home again. Continue reading
House at St. Louis and N. Prieur
It was a crisp, sunny day in New Orleans, and I took the Saturday for a nice, long bike ride around town. There was a bazaar over on Broad and Bienville, so I rode down to the Quarter and then over toward Mid-City on St. Louis. Continue reading
Blooming Flowers on Baronne
I’ve noticed recently that I take a lot of pictures of thing that represent the rundown parts of this city. That’s partly because that’s most of what this city is–rundown and largely abandoned–but why this is and how this could be different is also largely what I think about when I’m tooling around this place. Continue reading
House on Delachaise and S. Liberty
It’s a beautiful day in New Orleans. I can’t believe how warm and sunny it can still be in November. I zipped home from work this afternoon on Willow and then took a right onto Amelia to head toward the river. I passed this house near the corner of Delachaise and South Liberty. Continue reading
Bus Stop at Freret and Cadiz
Sometimes I really don’t understand the rebuilding priorities in this place. There is so much to be done. Just today on my ride home from work I passed a decaying house with missing doors exposing a moldy high chair, stacks of old newpapers, and a spare bike tire that particularly caught my eye. Continue reading
Halloween Decorations at Octavia and Annunciation
I had the day off today and spent part of it tooling around town on the bike before settling in to get some work done. It’s mid-October here, so that means it’s time for Halloween. I have lived lots of places, but never one where so many put so much into decking out their houses for this particular holiday. Continue reading
