Popeye’s at Claiborne and Milan

Popeye's on ClaiborneI left my house around 2:00 this afternoon, clipped in to my bike and hoping to run in to trouble somewhere. That’s my idea of a perfect Saturday afternoon. I started by tooling over to 4238 Claiborne, where I snapped this photo of Popeye’s. Continue reading

Cardboard Box In An Open Manhole on Upper Magazine

Open Manhole at Magazine and NinthI spent a lovely Sunday afternoon taking it easy and taking care of things around the house. My car is still living with J., so I took Jack to the grocery store, one pannier for perishables, the other for dry goods. There is a distinct pleasure in the task ride, especially on a lazy task day like today. Continue reading

Pothole Repair at Magazine and Philip

Pothole Repair at Magazine and FirstToday was a good day on my bike. Yesterday felt a bit sluggish, and I felt a bit lazy. But today’s ride was one of those rides that make me feel like a little kid, racing along on my bicycle, skirt flying. Continue reading

Lot For Sale at Richard and Annunciation

Lot For Sale at Richard and AnnunciationToday’s ride took me to the coffee shop for some revising, planning, reading, and chatting. It was nice and warm out, and the ride home was delightful. I took Annunciation, and was surprised yet again at how different this city looks from just street to street. Continue reading

Bike Route at Coliseum and Antonine

Bike Route at Coliseum and AntonineI’ve been taking some time off the bike to give my poor knees a rest, so today’s ride just took me to the hair salon and back.  On my return, I stopped to snap this photo of the Bike Route sign on Coliseum and Antonine.  Continue reading

Sky Above the St. Thomas Development

Sky Over Lower MagazineYes, this really is a picture of the sky in New Orleans today. That blue is ridiculous. I was riding down to a coffee shop to do some reading, and decided to get off Magazine Street and enjoy the occasionally smooth pavement of Laurel Street. This neighborhood–part Irish Channel, part Lower Garden District–is incredibly mixed. Continue reading

Post-Druid Parade Clean Up at Magazine and Bellecastle

Clean Up Crews After Druids Parade on MagazineSo, the parades have started again.  There was just one tonight–Ancient Druids–and they were following a new Uptown route, starting up at Jefferson and Magazine.  I decided to hop on Rhoda and head up there to see the start.  the weather report was bad today, predicting rain and hail, so the NOPD moved the parade start time up to 5:45 from 6:30.  That meant the parade went off around, well, 6:30.  Continue reading

Rat Poison at the Magazine Street Breaux Mart

Rat Poison By Breaux MartToday wasn’t much for bike riding, to tell you the truth.  I need to outfit the girl with enough baskets to carry home sixty student projects.  Or stop assigning student projects.  Regardless, I did get a chance to ride my bike to the bar to throw some darts with my good buddy N.  Continue reading

Rue de la Course on Magazine Street

Rue de la CourseIt was a rainy day in New Orleans, and I considered taking my car, but I managed to avoid the downpours and rode my bike to work.  After work I headed to Rue de la Course on Magazine Street, my home away from home, my other office.  Continue reading

Fire Hydrant at St. Mary’s and Magazine

Fire Hydrant at St. Mary's and MagazineWe’ve had some unseasonably cold weather lately, but today warmer temps were back, and I tossed on a skirt and a tank top and rode all over the neighborhood.  It felt so, so good to be on my bike and breathing normally.  Continue reading
