The post office closed at 4:30. I got there at 4:39. That meant a ride down to the main post office on Loyola. I wasn’t quite in the mood for that little trip this afternoon, but the bike ride through Central City was surprisingly pleasant and the line at the post office–at 5:00pm, mind you–took less than fifteen minutes. Train Tracks and Ships on Chartres and Louisa
Today was one of those perfect New Orleans Sundays, surprisingly cool and dry, blue sky, light breeze. It started with a lazy morning at home followed by a ride down to the Treme for brunch with friends, sipping champagne on the balcony in J. and S.’s newly-installed hammock. I lay there, staring up at the sky, listening to friends chatter and laugh, and felt damn lucky to be alive. Continue reading
Cuban Flag Commemoration Plaque at Poydras and Magazine
The past few days have been rainy rainy, so when the sun came out today and S. wanted to come over for a swim, I readily agreed. We then decided to go see a movie. At the movie theater. I hadn’t seen a movie in movie theater since December. Continue reading
Police on Canal Street for Essence Fest
I’m still tired after a lot of bike riding yesterday and not enough water, but I decided to ride Rhoda down to the Treme and then to the French Quarter for cake and swimming with friends. On my way home I rode around the Quarter a bit, checking out the crowds for Essence Fest, the big festie in town this weekend. Continue reading
Palm Tree at Harrah’s
I waited all day for midnight to roll around, because that meant it was my birthday, one of my very favorite days of the year, even if I do have to share it with my twin sister. Some people hate their birthdays, hate getting older, hate something, I don’t know what. Me? I love it. Continue reading
John Minor Wisdom US Court of Appeals
I spent my Thursday doing usual Thursday things and expected to spend my evening at home, watching the game, heading to bed early. But that’s not quite how things happened. Some friends let me in on a little secret–free fruity mojitos for ladiez! Works for me. Continue reading
Tanks at the National WWII Museum
Rhoda’s got a flat and I need a wrench to free her wheel, so Jack and I went looking for a hardware store. I headed down to the bike shop ISO tools and maybe a present or two; A. is in the market for a bike, so I rang her up and told her to meet me there for some test riding. Continue reading
FEMA Formaldehyde Trailer Claims Office
Today’s ride took me through the CBD and over toward Mid-City via Tulane Avenue. Tulane is only a couple streets uptown from Canal, but it feels so, so much different. Continue reading
New Orleans’ Original Downtown Quiznos Sub at Baronne and Union
It was another hot day for biking, but the afternoon ride ended at R.’s delightful 50th birthday party at a pool. I was hot and sweaty when I got there, and the heated pool was not quite as refreshing as I’d hoped, but the party was lots of fun and the birthday girl looked amazing. Continue reading
Hornets V. Nuggets at the New Orleans Arena
Sometimes wonderful things fall in to your lap. Today, it was floor seats under the basket to the Hornets/Nuggets playoff game tonight. D. called asking if N. and I might want to accompany her. Um…yeah! Continue reading
