My Tuned-Up Bike On Frenchman

After I finished up my writing tasks this afternoon I headed down to Frenchman Street on the rental Schwinn, hoping the Surly would be all done getting spit-shined at this season’s complimentary tune-up (more good reasons to buy from your local bike shoppe!). The Schwinn was a hybrid, easy step-through, fairly speedy, super cute. I thought I’d like some time sitting upright again, especially since Rhoda’s been having problems lately. And it was fun to ride a new bike for a few miles. But man, I was seriously missing my bike. Continue reading

Saints Fans Arriving at the Superdome for the NFC Championship

I don’t know if you’ve heard, but there was a football game in New Orleans today. The NFC championship against the Minnesota Vikings and Brett Favre? Winner goes to the Super Bowl? Yeah, that game. Continue reading

Adjusting the Lighting For a Movie on Frenchman Street

I have a cold, which sucks, especially when it’s cold out. I couldn’t really breathe through the sinus pressure yesterday, so I decided to just rest. But today I wanted to get back on the bike, so I hopped on Rhoda and rode down to the CBD to complete a car-related errand and then to the Marigny for coffee and reading-for-pleasure. Continue reading

Folks Browsing at the New Orleans Bookfair

NOLA Bookfair on FrenchmanI don’t feel too hot today–I’ve got that icky feeling in the back of my throat that says something’s off. But it was such a beautiful day, and a beautiful day for a bike ride, so I sucked it up and went downtown to enjoy the sunshine and dry air and crowds at the New Orleans Bookfair and the Bywater Mirliton Festival. (I was running late–no time to stop at the Scandinavian Festival!) Continue reading

Lights in the Courtyard at the Dragon’s Den

Lights in the Courtyard at the Dragon's DenIt is hot and humid in New Orleans, even though it is the end of October. I was sweating like June when I got down to D.’s place for our weekly TV date with J., R., and S. Afterwards a few of us hopped on our bikes and rode over to the Dragon’s Den on Esplanade near Frenchman to see and hear some music (unfortunately, our dilly dally-ing meant we missed the show). Continue reading

Delicious New Asphalt at St. Charles and Louisiana

Beautiful Asphalt at St. Charles and LouisianaIt is so, so humid here. I know, I know–that’s New Orleans. But really people, it’s crazy humid here lately. When I rode to the coffee shop today it was pouring rain, but then it stopped and the sun came out and the steam was rising. I headed down to the Treme for drinks with friends tonight, and as soon as I pulled the Surly out of my air conditioned apartment¬† my glasses fogged up and my handlebars were wet with condensation. Continue reading

Bicycle Michael’s on Frenchman Street

Bicycle Michael'sToday was positive beautiful, sunny and warm, but not too warm, and I decided to make today the day to take the plunge and get myself a road bike. Don’t get me wrong–Rhoda is wonderful. Continue reading

Linnzi Zaorski and Dancers at d.b.a.

This post is a bit late, as it concerns something I saw on my bike yesterday, but I don’t want to lose last night’s ride just because I didn’t have the energy to put words together when I got home.¬† Yesterday, just as I was heading home from a lovely weekend of camping, I got a phone call from E. letting me know that a dear family member had died.¬† Continue reading

Sunday on Bourbon Street

I had a truly lovely day today; surprisingly, I had it in a car. A convertible, that is. A. was kind enough to drive us several hours south to Avery Island, Louisiana, and the rush of wind far exceeded any I am able to work up on my bicycle. Continue reading
