One of my very, very favorite things about New Orleans–and surely many places are like this–is how many ways there are to sit outside and watch stuff. Continue reading
French Quarter
Twilight Sky at Dauphine and Bienville
I’ve been itching to ride Jack around these past few days and finally had time tonight to velcro on my bike shoes and tool around for a bit. I rode to meet some friends for dinner, and I found myself racing my friend’s car for part of the way. Continue reading
The Moon From Euterpe and St. Charles
My knee was feeling so, so much better this evening, I think because of yoga. My body may have just needed a streeetching out. So when friends called to go dancing in Mid-City, I happily hopped on Rhoda and headed out. Continue reading
Empty Wall on Decatur at Esplanade
I took Jack to the bike shoppe today for her first check up–she’s growing up so fast! On my walk to the coffee shop to wait for Jack’s return I snapped a picture of this wall that clearly used to advertise all kinds of things, but has recently been cleaned off. Continue reading
USCT Graves at Chalmette National Cemetery
Jazz Fest is here in New Orleans, and the weather just couldn’t be better for it. I’m not going this weekend, opting instead for the more affordable and more my speed Festival International Louisiane in Lafayette. Before heading off for music galore, though, I decided to take a day riding around this beautiful town, away from crowds. Continue reading
Jackson Square Crowds at French Quarter Fest
The weather reports promised thunderstorms today, but the sun was out, and despite a late night, I was up for another bike ride. I rode down to the Quarter to see the crowds out for French Quarter Fest and hear a bit of music. I, like lots of folks, can’t really afford Jazz Fest, so I really appreciate this free party. I snapped this picture of the many people crowding in to Jackson Square, with the church and the Cabildo in the background. Isn’t it beautiful? Continue reading
Easter Shoppers at Winn-Dixie
I had a great bike riding day yesterday. I rode down to the Quarter to see one more panel at the PCA conference, back Uptown for drinks with friends, back down to the Bywater for wine with friends, to the Quarter for some dancing, and then back home. I didn’t take any pictures, though. I just rode. It felt so good. Today the winds were up and the weather was bad and the tornado warnings were on. So naturally I went out on a bike ride. Continue reading
My Bike at Cafe du Monde
My sister is in town this week, and we are having a fantastic time. But that does mean I haven’t been riding my bike as much. So while she spent the day at the Pop Culture Association meetings, I took the chance to take Jack on a speedy ride to work. It was a beautiful day in New Orleans, and it felt amazing to be back on the bike. Continue reading
Abandoned Albertson’s at Jefferson Parkway and Tulane Ave.
I got up this morning with a gleam in my eye. Because today, my dear friend K., picked up her new bike. And she wanted to spend the day riding all over town, stretching her legs and her new chain. Well, I’m certainly up for using my sunny Saturday afternoon like that, so I met her at the bike shop in the Quarter. Continue reading
PJ’s Roastery on Chartres
The weather predictors promised thunderstorms this afternoon and evening, but fortunately, upon checking the radar, I saw that I had a window of opportunity for a nice bike ride this evening. The rain is pouring down as I write this, but it was warm and muggy and perfect when I headed out. I took Jack, and went clipless, because I’ve got to get over the little niggling fear I have of being stuck to my bike. Continue reading
