HBO Second Line in the Treme

Treme Crew Party Second LineGood lord, it’s hot in New Orleans! I know, I know–it’s a good problem to have if you are living somewhere where it’s already snowing. But I long for fall bike rides. Then again, the sun felt good as I headed out on my bike toward the Treme after watching President Obama’s Town Hall at UNO, skirt flying and doing my bike dance. Summertime in October. Whoa. Tree Root Across the Sidewalk on St. Mary’s Near Coliseum

Tree Root on the Sidewalk on St. Mary's Near ColiseumI am under the weather, all sniffles and sinuses, and this is really putting a dent in my bicycling. I mean, I need to breathe, people! But after some decongestant and guaifenesin, I was in shape to ride to the CBD to meet K. for our weekly dinner date. It was hot and cool, depending on the shade level, and I showed up thirsty. Continue reading

Graffiti at Dauphine and Conti

Sock Hop For Cops Graffiti at Dauphine and ContiLast night’s rain has left this city soggy, and I was a bit nervous about getting caught in a downpour on my ride to work. I stayed dry, but it’s definitely time to start thinking about getting some quality rain gear. I took the Surly out for the first time since I got home tonight, pedaling through Central City in the thick air. Continue reading

Frog on an Uptown Window

Frog on an Uptown DoorI’m back from a bike-less trip to California. It was a bit odd, going five days without riding a bicycle, but I think my knees appreciated the rest, and though I didn’t need it, Los Angeles traffic reminded me that I prefer riding a bicycle around to sitting in a car any day. Continue reading

Brady House at Camp and Conery

Spaceship House at Camp and ConeryI had an incredible amount of stuff to get done today and was feeling stretched thin. But then I remembered that some of those errands could be run by bike, slowly, along side streets. That always, always makes me feel better. Bikes are like that–a guaranteed fix for most stresses. Continue reading

Foam Block Construction at Freret and Jena

New Construction on FreretIt has been raining like crazy and I’ve been crazy busy preparing for a trip to Los Angeles this week, which has been seriously putting a crimp in my riding and blogging. Continue reading

Construction on Magazine at the I10 Underpass

Magazine Street Constructionat the WWII MuseumI took the Surly out for a leisurely ride down to the Marigny to get some writing done this afternoon. I love putting on a fluffy skirt and my shimano shoes, putting on some music, clipping in, and flying down newly paved streets. New Orleans is putting in so many. Continue reading

Loyola Bike Auction at the Freret Street Garage

Loyola Bike Auction at the Freret Street GarageToday’s ride took me up to campus for a meeting. Afterward, I walked the Surly over to Loyola with R. to check out their biannual bike auction. Lots of bikes get abandoned on campus, left locked up, their owners failing to return. The Loyola police gather them up and put them up for sale. Continue reading

Ironwork at Coliseum Square Park

Iron Something at Coliseum Square ParkOh yes, fall is in the air. It was warm when I rode to work this morning, hot when I rode home, warm when I rode to meet K. for dinner, and then a teensy bit chilly as we walked my bike over to the coffee shop afterwards. It is so, so nice. I’m usually riding, so our walk through Coliseum Park gave me a different view. Continue reading
