I had a lazy day today just doing things around the house and staring at my cats. I fixed a flat on the Surly and then took her out for a ride this afternoon to meet N. for some Mexico/U.S. soccer action.I then rode my bike home, where I passed this statue of the Virgin Mary, wearing Mardi Gras beads around her neck. Geese Napping at Lake Merritt
Today’s my last day in the Bay Area, and I spent the afternoon tooling around on the bicycle, running errands for S., who is still recovering from surgery. I went to the drug store, the grocery for flowers, and then the bakery. Oh, the bakery. Continue reading
Parrot on a Wire at Erato and Oretha Castle Haley
The post office closed at 4:30. I got there at 4:39. That meant a ride down to the main post office on Loyola. I wasn’t quite in the mood for that little trip this afternoon, but the bike ride through Central City was surprisingly pleasant and the line at the post office–at 5:00pm, mind you–took less than fifteen minutes. Continue reading
Cops On Horseback on Decatur
Tonight Jack and I rode down to the Treme for dinner with friends. The Quarter is so quiet now that Essence Fest is over. It’s funny how Bourbon always seems to put on the same show, whether anyone’s there to see it or not. Continue reading
Heron Nest Building in Audubon Park
I read myself to sleep last night with a bike repair book, so woke up with an urgent need to clean and maintain my bikes. Rhoda’s chain has been skipping a lot lately, and even the pedaling has felt off. So I treated her to a new chain, and she feels so, so much better. After riding to and from work I decided to meet K. to take Jack out for a spin on the levee. Continue reading
UCLA vs. VCU at Ochsner Baptist ER
Today is my first day of spring break. AND it’s the first day of the NCAA tournament. Yeah, it’s a good, good day. I celebrated by–what else–taking a bike ride. This afternoon’s ride took me to Mid-City to help J. and M. move in to their new place. There were eight of us, a U-Haul, a pick-up truck, three dogs, three cases of beer, and jambalaya. I can stand to move like this, I must say. Continue reading
Birds at Bayou St. John
Today was a New Orleans kind of day, as N. would say. I had no particular plans, but what started as brunch with friends ended up being a day of fun in Mid-City, riding the new bike around. Continue reading
Bunny Roadkill at Loyola
So there I was on my bike, zipping along on my commute, rediscovering old favorites on my ipod. And then I had to swerve to miss running over a dead bunny rabbit on St. Charles in front of Loyola U. Now, this is a city. What the heck is a bunny doing trying to cross the street here? Continue reading
Rat Poison at the Magazine Street Breaux Mart
Today wasn’t much for bike riding, to tell you the truth. I need to outfit the girl with enough baskets to carry home sixty student projects. Or stop assigning student projects. Regardless, I did get a chance to ride my bike to the bar to throw some darts with my good buddy N. Continue reading
Topiary Bull on St. Charles
It’s a stormy day here in New Orleans, but I made it to and from work on my bike before the downpours. I stopped on my way home to snap a picture of this topiary bull in the yard of a fancy house at St. Charles and Arabella. Continue reading
