This post really belongs on a blog titled What I Saw Pushing My Bike Around In The Rain Today. As I was leaving this morning to meet S. at the coffee shop in the Marigny I thought to myself, remember to grab the patch kit and pump. Wish I’d heeded that call, because on the way home I popped my front tire at Lee Circle. Continue reading

The Red Corner at the Freret Street Gym
I spent today using my bicycle for transportation. Yes, the bike is not just a toy. It is how I get from place to place. Today found me riding to and from the coffee shop and then uptown to the Freret Street Gym for their Friday Night Fights. My friend S. has been training for a month and was ready, sort of, for her first bout. Continue reading
St. Charles Streetcar in the CBD
Today I rode down to the Marigny for breakfast with a friend, with the plan to get some writing done over coffee afterward. My good buddy S. called from Mississippi with bad news–she’d been in a car accident (don’t worry–everybody’s ok, including the dog)–and that put a crimp in my plan. Continue reading
Flex New Orleans at Baronne
Tonight I rode down to the Treme for dinner with D. and then over to the edge of the French Quarter for a show at the House of Blues. I of course saw many Lutherans on my way downtown–rounding Lee Circle, blocking traffic at Camp and Carondolet, and marching through the Quarter im their matching Tshirts, or matching sequined dresses. Continue reading
Holy Trinity Church in the Bywater (Amendment: Marigny–these neighborhoods are all so small!)
Today’s ride took me down to the Marigny in search of a comfortable coffee shop to get some reading done. But my favorite coffee shop is on vacation! The nerve! Actually, I’m glad folks here take real vacations. We don’t do enough of that. Continue reading
Trains at Galvez and St. Ferdinand
I took Jack out for a ride this afternoon, and it felt so, so good. It was either a little bit cooler or I’ve acclimated, and that made biking around town much more pleasant. I planned to ride down to the Marigny hoping to find the bike shop open for a payday treat, but got sidetracked Uptown, watching a movie shoot. Continue reading
Michael Jackson Memorial Dance Party in the Marigny
Today was a task-ride kind of day. I rode my bike over to K.’s in the morning so we could go shop for party supplies for my late-late-late birthday party. Afterwards, I rode down to the Quarter to pick up some things I’d forgotten at the place I was apartment sitting. Continue reading
Tall Grass at Rayne Memorial Church
I was out of town for a few days, in the beautiful Mississippi delta, where I didn’t bike. Or walk. Or do much of anything other than float aimlessly in a pool in the middle of nowhere. It was lovely, but I was happy to get back home and back to work. And back to my bike. Continue reading
Matching T-Shirts at Jackson Square
I got a text from S. this morning asking if anybody wanted to get a bagel or beignets. She had me at beignets. I hopped on Rhoda and sped down to the Quarter to Cafe du Monde, listening to that sort of music that makes you feel like it ain’t no sin to be glad you’re alive. Continue reading
Produce Truck in the Marigny
S. was out of town for a few days and (phew) wanted to meet early for coffee, book-talk, and writing, so I hopped on Jack and tooled down to the Marigny to meet her. We sat outside at the cafe, sipping coffee (hers iced, mine hot) and worried about the state of things. Continue reading
